How to Watch NPB Outside Japan — Streaming Guide 2025
By The Yakyu Analyst | Japan Baseball Lab
The single most common question in our inbox from new readers is some version of: I want to actually watch NPB — how do I do it? It’s the right instinct. Reading about Japanese baseball through statistics and analysis is valuable, but there’s no substitute for watching Roki Sasaki’s splitter disappear below a hitter’s knees in real time, or seeing how a Koshien ace carries himself in the seventh inning of a tournament game.
The good news is that NPB’s international streaming situation has improved substantially over the past three years. The bad news is that it remains more complicated than it should be, with availability varying significantly by region and no single platform covering everything. This guide maps the current landscape as of 2025 — what’s available, what it costs, and what you actually get.
We update this guide at the start of each NPB season. If something has changed, let us know at [email protected].

2. North America
NPB.jp International
NPB’s own international streaming platform is the most comprehensive option for North American viewers and the one we recommend as a first subscription. It offers live streaming of select regular season games (typically 3–5 per week), full-game replays available within 24 hours of the live broadcast, and on-demand access to condensed game highlights. Commentary is available in both Japanese and, for select games, English.
The platform’s major advantage is coverage depth: it is the only service that reliably covers all 12 NPB teams with some regularity, rather than focusing primarily on the teams with the highest international profiles. If you want to track a prospect on the Lotte Marines or the Seibu Lions rather than just following the Yomiuri Giants or SoftBank Hawks, NPB.jp International is your best option.
The user interface is functional rather than polished — it does not match the production quality of MLB.tv — but it has improved meaningfully in recent seasons. Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android.

DAZN
DAZN’s North American coverage of NPB has expanded in recent seasons and now includes live access to more games per week than NPB.jp International on some plans. DAZN’s production quality and interface are notably better than NPB.jp, and if you already subscribe to DAZN for other sports (J-League soccer, boxing, international football), adding NPB viewing to your existing subscription represents good value.
The limitation: DAZN’s NPB coverage focuses more heavily on marquee matchups and does not provide the comprehensive team-by-team coverage that NPB.jp offers. For casual NPB viewing, DAZN is excellent. For serious prospect tracking across all 12 teams, supplement with NPB.jp.

MLB.tv
MLB.tv does not carry NPB games, but it is worth mentioning in this context because it is often the reference point North American viewers use when evaluating NPB streaming options. NPB’s streaming infrastructure is improving toward MLB.tv’s standard but is not yet at parity for out-of-market game coverage or on-demand depth.
Europe
DAZN (UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, and select others)
DAZN is the primary NPB streaming option in Europe for countries where the service operates. Coverage quality and game availability are similar to the North American DAZN offering. Check DAZN’s current country availability directly, as their European market footprint has shifted in recent years.
For European countries where DAZN is not available, NPB.jp International’s global streaming plan provides the most reliable access, though live game times present a challenge: NPB games typically start between 18:00 and 18:30 Japan Standard Time, which is 10:00–11:30 CET for Central European viewers — workday morning hours that make live viewing impractical for most. The on-demand replay availability within 24 hours is the practical solution for most European fans.

3. Australia and New Zealand
Australia and New Zealand are actually among the best-positioned regions for NPB live viewing outside Japan, purely because of time zone alignment. NPB’s evening games (18:00–21:00 JST) correspond to 19:00–22:00 AEST / 21:00–24:00 NZST — evening viewing hours that make live access genuinely practical.
DAZN Australia
DAZN operates in Australia and provides NPB coverage with live game access. The time zone advantage means Australian subscribers are watching games live rather than relying on replays, which significantly enhances the viewing experience.
Kayo Sports
Kayo Sports, the Australian streaming platform focused on sports content, has carried NPB games in recent seasons. Check current Kayo Sports offerings for the 2025 NPB season — their Japanese baseball coverage has been inconsistent year to year but has trended toward expansion.

4. Rest of World
For viewers outside North America, Europe, and Australia, NPB.jp International’s global plan is the most reliable option. Coverage is more limited than in priority regions — live game availability may be restricted to selected marquee matchups — but on-demand replay access is generally comprehensive.
Latin American viewers should check whether DAZN operates in their country, as the platform’s Latin American expansion has included NPB content in several markets.
Southeast Asian viewers are among the best-positioned globally for NPB access, with multiple regional streaming platforms carrying Japanese sports content. J Sports, a Japanese sports broadcaster, has expanded streaming access in several Southeast Asian markets and provides the most comprehensive NPB coverage available in the region.
5. Free Options
YouTube — NPB Official Channel
NPB maintains an official YouTube channel that publishes highlight packages, condensed game recaps, and selected full game replays from significant games (playoff games, historic performances). The content is free, well-produced, and regularly updated during the NPB season. For fans who want a taste of NPB before committing to a subscription, the official YouTube channel is the best starting point.
Search “NPB Baseball” on YouTube for the official channel. Highlight packages for each day’s games are typically posted within 12–18 hours of game completion.
NHK World
NHK World, Japan’s international public broadcasting service, occasionally carries NPB games — particularly Japan Series games and All-Star exhibitions — with English commentary. The coverage is not comprehensive enough for regular season tracking but provides free access to the most significant NPB events of the calendar year. NHK World is available via its free streaming app on most devices.
Social Media
NPB’s official social media accounts (Twitter/X, Instagram) post daily highlight clips during the season. Individual team accounts provide team-specific content. Several NPB-focused English-language accounts on Twitter/X provide real-time game updates and statistical commentary that can substitute for live game access for stat-focused followers.
Japan Baseball Lab maintains a social media presence with analytical commentary on significant NPB developments throughout the season. Follow for real-time Statcast-style analysis of NPB pitching and hitting.
6. What to Watch First
If you’re new to NPB and not sure where to start, here are our recommendations for getting oriented quickly:
Start with a Yoshinobu Yamamoto Start
Any Yamamoto start from his 2022 or 2023 NPB seasons — available on NPB.jp International on-demand — is the single best introduction to what elite NPB pitching looks like. His combination of velocity, splitter quality, and command gives you the full picture in one viewing. Watch specifically for how hitters react to the transition from his four-seam fastball to his splitter in the same count.
Watch a Koshien Game in August
NHK’s live Koshien coverage in August is free via NHK World for select games. The production quality is excellent and the cultural context — 47,000 fans, 17-year-olds playing for their high school careers — is immediately apparent. It’s the fastest way to understand why Koshien matters in a way that reading about it cannot replicate.
Follow One Team for a Month
The best way to develop genuine NPB literacy is to follow one team consistently rather than jumping between marquee games. Pick a team whose roster has prospects you’re interested in tracking — the Orix Buffaloes, SoftBank Hawks, and Lotte Marines have all been strong development organizations in recent years — and watch their games regularly for a month. The pattern recognition that develops from seeing the same pitchers and hitters repeatedly is the foundation of real NPB evaluation skill.
